The Barn Quilt series was inspired
by an artist residency in rural Ohio.
Barn quilts, also known as hex signs or hexafoos, translates from the Pennsylvanian German "hexe" witch and "fuss" foot, used to keep evil spirits from the cattle or for decoration.
In the 1940’s, silkscreen printing by local Pennsylvanian craftsmen popularized hex signs nationwide, as American souvenirs.
